Skincare can be overwhelming - we talk about this often! With so many brands, products, ingredients, blogs and tips out there, it can become really confusing to simply take care of your skin. So, let's talk about some really common skincare mistakes to avoid, so you can enjoy your best skin!
Skincare Do's
Pay attention to brand values: Put simply, brands with transparent ethics and values are more likely to produce products of a higher quality. It should go without saying, products of a higher quality will work best for your skin
Pay attention to ingredients: Not all skincare ingredients are actually good for your skin. Alcohols and synthetic fragrances are best avoided altogether. Look for nourishing ingredients like hyaluronic acid and antioxidants instead. When it comes to active ingredients (AHAs, BHAs, retinol, vitamin C) be sure to follow the usage directions for best results - while these ingredients are super beneficial to the skin, if used incorrectly, they can also cause more harm than good
Moisturise daily: Moisture is the essence of beauty, as they say! Find a moisturiser designed for your skin type, and apply it morning and evening after cleansing and toning. Moisturised skin is the key to a healthy, glowing complexion
Skincare Don'ts
Don't over-exfoliate: The old saying 'it'll be right' doesn't apply here! There really can be too much of a good thing... Over-exfoliating can strips away the skin's natural oils and even cause micro tears in the skin barrier. This can lead to dehydrated skin, irritation and breakouts. Find a gentle exfoliant and exfoliate just once a twice or week - depending on your skin's needs
Don't use too many actives: We touched on it already, but over-using or misusing active ingredients like AHAs, BHAs, retinol and vitamin C can do more harm than good. Be sure to follow usage directions, and give your skin a break if it shows any signs of irritation
Don't skip sunscreen: As we all know, sun damage is one of the leading culprits when it comes to premature ageing (fine lines, wrinkles, pigmentation...). So make sure you wear an SPF 30+ every morning, even if it's cloudy, or you're staying indoors. It's one of those things that you won't regret in your nineties!
Don't sleep in your makeup: We've all been there. No matter what, always remove your makeup and cleanse your skin before going to bed (and slap on some moisturiser at minimum, please!). This will help to prevent clogged pores, breakouts and irritated skin
That's it! Easy as skincare tips. We wonder what must-do's you have, or, what don'ts we've missed (there's sure to be some extra guilts out there!).
